MISSION OF ISA (AS)

- So Muslim recognises Jesus (AS) as a true Prophet and Messenger of Allah. But what do they believer about him?

- The key aspects in the Muslim portrayal of Jesus are:

-His virgin birth, his Prophet-hood,

i) His miracles

ii) Hs mission

iii) Ascension (as opposed to his alleged crucifixion)

iv) His second coming as a messiah.

“I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel”

[Mathew: 15:24] Kings James Version

JESUS VIRGIN BIRTH

Verily, the likeness of 'Iesa (Jesus) before Allah is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: "Be!" and he was.

(Al Imran 3:59)

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was

[Al Imran: 3:59] Sahih International

- Jesus (AS) creation is a miracle in itself, but it is not the only of its kind. Jesus was created from only a female, without a biological father.

- Adam (AS), the ancestor of all mankind, was created from neither male nor female by the sheer command of Allah.

- Eva, Adams wife, was created from only from the male, without a biological mother.

- With the rest of mankind originating from both a male and a female through normal procreation, we thus have four distinct types of creation.

And mention in the Book (the Qur'an, O Muhammad SAW, the story of) Maryam (Mary), when she withdrew in seclusion from her family to a place facing east. She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our Ruh [angel Jibrael (Gabriel)], and he appeared before her in the form of a man in all respects. She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah." (The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son." She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?" He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: 'That is easy for Me (Allah) : And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allah), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allah).'

(Maryam 19:16-21)

And mention, [O Muhammad], in the Book [the story of] Mary, when she withdrew from her family to a place toward the east. And she took, in seclusion from them, a screen. Then We sent to her Our Angel, and he represented himself to her as a well-proportioned man. She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah." He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy." She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "

[Maryam: 16-21] Sahih International

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me." He said: "So (it will be) for Allah creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be!" and it is.

(Aali Imran 3:47)

She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.

[Al Imran: 3:47] Sahih International

- To avoid being questioned and bringing shame upon her family, she leaves.

So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a far place (i.e. Bethlehem valley about 4-6 miles from Jerusalem).

(Maryam 19:22)

So she conceived him, and she withdrew with him to a remote place.

[Maryam: 19:22] Sahih International

- When about to give birth, she is still troubled with the thought of having to present a child to her people without having been married.

And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!"

(Maryam 19:23)

And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten."

[Maryam: 19:23] Sahih International

- She decides to observe a fast from speaking to avoid being challenged.

Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have brought a thing Fariya (an unheard mighty thing). "O sister (i.e. the like) of Harun (Aaron) [not the brother of Musa (Moses), but he was another pious man at the time of Maryam (Mary)]! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman." Then she pointed to him. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?"

(Maryam 19:27-29)

Then she brought him to her people, carrying him. They said, "O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented. O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste." So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" [

Maryam: 19:27-29] Sahih International

- Jesus (AS) miraculous birth is followed by other miracles from the moment he was born.

- As his mother point at him in the midst of her people's allegation.

"He ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allah, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;"

(Maryam 19:30)

[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet.

[Maryam: 19:30] Sahih International

- When confronted with sure miracles, many people ascribed them to Jesus (AS) in person instead of to the greater power of God, who had given these Signs.

-They associated divinity directly with Jesus, whereas Jesus himself only ever claimed to have been a true servant and prophet of God.

END OF HIS MISSION

VERSE FROM QUR'AN POINT VIEW

But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) ]: But Allah raised him ['Iesa (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he is in the heavens). And Allah is Ever All Powerful, All Wise.

(An-Nisa 4:157-158)

And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

[An Nisa: 4:157-158] Sahih International

Truly! Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone). This is the Straight Path. (Aali Imran 3:51)

Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path."

[Al Imran: 3:51] Sahih International

O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, nor say of Allah aught but the truth. The Messiah 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), was (no more than) a Messenger of Allah and His Word, ("Be!" - and he was) which He bestowed on Maryam (Mary) and a spirit (Ruh) created by Him; so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not: "Three (trinity)!" Cease! (it is) better for you. For Allah is (the only) One Ilah (God), Glory be to Him (Far Exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is All Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs.

(An-Nisa 4:171)

O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.

[An Nisa: 4:171] Sahih International

The Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a Siddiqah [i.e. she believed in the words of Allah and His Books (see Verse 66:12)]. They both used to eat food (as any other human being, while Allah does not eat). (Al-Ma'idah 5:75)

The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.

[Al Ma'idah: 5:75] Sahih International

And will make him ['Iesa (Jesus)] a Messenger to the Children of Israel (saying) : "I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I design for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's Leave; and I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by Allah's Leave. And I inform you of what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely, therein is a sign for you, if you believe. And I have come confirming that which was before me of the Taurat (Torah), and to make lawful to you part of what was forbidden to you, and I have come to you with a proof from your Lord. So fear Allah and obey me. Truly! Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (Alone). This is the Straight Path

(Aali Imran 3:49-51)

And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers. And [I have come] confirming what was before me of the Torah and to make lawful for you some of what was forbidden to you. And I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so fear Allah and obey me. Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is the straight path."

[Al Imran: 3:49-51] Sahih International

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mathew: (5:17-19) Kings James Version

Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Dawud (David) and 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allah and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds.

(Al-Ma'idah 5:78)

Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.

[Al Ma'idah: 5:78] Sahih International

O you who believe! Be you helpers (in the Cause) of Allah as said 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), to Al Hawariun (the disciples) : "Who are my helpers (in the Cause) of Allah?" Al Hawarieen (the disciples) said: "We are Allah's helpers" (i.e. we will strive in His Cause!). Then a group of the Children of Israel believed and a group disbelieved. So We gave power to those who believed against their enemies, and they became the uppermost.

(As-Saff 61:14)

O you who have believed, be supporters of Allah, as when Jesus, the son of Mary, said to the disciples, "Who are my supporters for Allah?" The disciples said, "We are supporters of Allah." And a faction of the Children of Israel believed and a faction disbelieved. So We supported those who believed against their enemy, and they became dominant

GRAVE SINS

“The father shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the father, every man shall be put to death for his own Sins.” (Deuteronomy; (24:16) Kings James Version

No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only), and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then unto your Lord is your return, so He will tell you that wherein you have been differing."

(Al-An'am 6:164)

Say, "Is it other than Allah I should desire as a lord while He is the Lord of all things? And every soul earns not [blame] except against itself, and no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you concerning that over which you used to differ."

COMING OF PROPHET (COMFORTER) IS IT MUHAMMAD (SAW)

“If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the father and He shall give you another Comforter that he may abide with you forever.”

Phrase “He may abide with you forever” is it the (Qur'an) finally message abide forever until judgement day

“A Spirit hath not flesh and bones (Luke: (24:39) Kings James Version

“The Spirit of Truth” (John 16:13) Kings James Version

- Since childhood the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was called Al-Ameen, i.e. the Honest or Truthful one, and “He will guide you into all truth:”

The original word in Greek used for “Comforter” is Paracleetos.  This word is sometimes translated as “Spirit of Truth” and at other times as than Holy Spirit” however from the context of the verse (John 14 verse 15-16), Kings James Version

The “Comforter” could not be the Holy Spirit” since according to another passage in the bible, the Holy spirit” was already present during the time of Jesus, helping him and guiding him. The Gospel according the (Luke chapter 3 verse 22) Kings James Version

“And the Holy Spirit descended upon him (Jesus).” Consequently, paracleetos is taken to mean “Comforter”, than the awaited one whose coming Jesus foretold, must be Muhammad (ﷺ), since he is described as a “Mercy” from Allah.

  • He would be from among the brethren of the Jews,

So, Muhammad (Saw) put his hand in the vessel, and the water started gushing out between his fingers, So, they drank and made ablution. They were one thousand five hundred companions.

[“A revelation from  (Allah), the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful; a book whereof the verses are explained ion detail; a Qu‘ran in Arabic, for people who know, giving good news and warning, yet most of them turn away, so they do not listen.]

(Fussilat: 41 verse 2-4)

[This is] a revelation from the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful - A Book whose verses have been detailed, an Arabic Qur'an for a people who know, As a giver of good tidings and a warner; but most of them turn away, so they do not hear.

[Fussilat: 41:2-4] Sahih International

1.                  Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “There was no prophet among the prophet but was given miracles because of which people had security or had belief, but what I have been given is the Divine Inspiration which Allah has revealed to me. So I hope that my followers will be more than those of any other prophet on the day of Resurrection.” (Al-Bukhari Vol: 9 no: 379)

2.                  Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA) the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Both in this world and in the hereafter, I am nearest of the people to Isa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), the prophet are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one (i.e. Islamic monotheism).” (Al-Bukhari Vol: 4 no: 652)

WHAT IS RUH (THE SPIRIT?)

[“And they ask you (O Muhammad) concerning the Ruh (the Sprit); Say “the Ruh (the spirit) is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little.”]

(Al-Isra 17:85)

And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, "The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind have not been given of knowledge except a little."

Those Messengers! We preferred some to others; to some of them Allah spoke (directly); others He raised to degrees (of honour); and to 'Iesa (Jesus), the son of Maryam (Mary), We gave clear proofs and evidences, and supported him with Ruh-ul-Qudus [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. If Allah had willed, succeeding generations would not have fought against each other, after clear Verses of Allah had come to them, but they differed - some of them believed and others disbelieved. If Allah had willed, they would not have fought against one another, but Allah does what He likes.

(Al-Baqarah 2:253)

THE RETURN OF THE MESSIAH

And there is none of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), but must believe in him ['Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), as only a Messenger of Allah and a human being],before his ['Iesa (Jesus) or a Jew's or a Christian's] death (at the time of the appearance of the angel of death). And on the Day of Resurrection, he ['Iesa (Jesus)] will be a witness against them

(An-Nisa 4:159)

And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in Jesus before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness.

[Al Baqarah: 2:253]

She said: "Verily! I seek refuge with the Most Beneficent (Allah) from you, if you do fear Allah." (The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son." (The angel) said: "I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son." She said: "How can I have a son, when no man has touched me, nor am I unchaste?"

(Maryam 19:18-20)

She said, "Indeed, I seek refuge in the Most Merciful from you, [so leave me], if you should be fearing of Allah." He said, "I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy." She said, "How can I have a boy while no man has touched me and I have not been unchaste?" He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' "

The Jews said that the Christians follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); and the Christians said that the Jews follow nothing (i.e. are not on the right religion); though they both recite the Scripture. Like unto their word, said (the pagans) who know not. Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection about that wherein they have been differing. (Al-Baqarah 2:113)

The Jews say "The Christians have nothing [true] to stand on," and the Christians say, "The Jews have nothing to stand on," although they [both] recite the Scripture. Thus the polytheists speak the same as their words. But Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ

[Al Baqarah: 2:113] Sahih International

- Christians do not deny Jesus' ascension, but believe it followed his crucifixion.

- They teach that he rose from the dead and then was raised to God, and they see this as his greatness miracle and proof of divinity. Jesus alleged crucifixion is probably the biggest issue of contention between Christians and Muslim.

- The crucifixion has also been the source of enmity between Christian and Jews because Jesus was allegedly put to death on the behest of the Jewish elders.

-The Key Christians doctrine is that is that by sacrificing His own son, God redeemed the world of sins.

- According to the Old Testament, crucified was a humiliating death reserved for those were curse.

- The other contradiction in this doctrine. The idea that God Punished His innocent son to free mankind from inherited sin violates the rule set out in Deuteronomy 24 verse 16

The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin. [Deuteronomy 24:16] Kings James Bible

No person earns any (sin) except against himself (only), and no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another.

(Al-An'am 6:164)

- Christian theologians have Him break His own law and punish the innocent in order to save the guilty.

- A Truly loving God does not need this kind of inequity in order to be forgiving.

And (remember) when Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection) : "O 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: 'Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?' " He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the All Knower of all that is hidden and unseen. "Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allah) did command me to say: 'Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.' And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world). "If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily You, only You are the All Mighty, the All Wise." (Al-Ma'idah 5:116-118)

And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, 'Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?'" He will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen. I said not to them except what You commanded me - to worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You were the Observer over them, and You are, over all things, Witness. If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

[Al Ma'idah: 116-118] Sahih International

Such is 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). (it is) a statement of truth, about which they doubt (or dispute. It befits not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son [this refers to the slander of Christians against Allah, by saying that 'Iesa (Jesus) is the son of Allah]. Glorified (and Exalted be He above all that they associate with Him). When He decrees a thing, He only says to it, "Be!" and it is. ['Iesa (Jesus) said]: "And verily Allah is my Lord and your Lord. So worship Him (Alone). That is the Straight Path. (Allah's Religion of Islamic Monotheism which He did ordain for all of His Prophets)" [Tafsir At-Tabari]

(Maryam 19:34-36)

That is Jesus, the son of Mary - the word of truth about which they are in dispute. It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, "Be," and it is. [Jesus said], "And indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. That is a straight path."

[Maryam: 34-36] Sahih International

- Above verse proof that crucifixion never took places.

- According to the teaching of Islam, Jesus (AS) did not die and then rise again from the dead. He was save the humiliating death of crucifixion by God who him ascend to Himself.

- He remains in the presence of God until the time when he will have to complete his task: to return as the messiah or Christ near the end of time.

Abu Hurayrah (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The Hour will not begin until the son of Maryam descends among you as a just ruler. He will break the cross, kill the pigs and abolish the jizyah, and money will become abundant until no one will accept it.”

[Al-Bukhari: (3/34) Hadith: (2222)) & Sahih Bukhari: (3/34) Hadith (425) and Muslim (155)]

He would then walk through the waste, land and say to it: Bring forth your treasures, and the treasures would come out and collect (themselves) before him like the swarm of bees. He would then call a person brimming with youth and strike him with the sword and cut him into two pieces and (make these pieces lie at a distance which is generally) between the archer and his target. He would then call (that young man) and he will come forward laughing with his face gleaming (with happiness) and it would at this very time that Allah would send Christ, son of Mary, and he will descend at the white minaret in the eastern side of Damascus wearing two garments lightly dyed with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he would lower his head, there would fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he would raise it up, beads like pearls would scatter from it. Every non-believer who would smell the odour of his self would die and his breath would reach as far as he would be able to see. He would then search for him (Dajjal) until he would catch hold of him at the gate of Ludd and would kill him. Then a people whom Allah had protected would come to Jesus, son of Mary, and he would wipe their faces and would inform them of their ranks in Paradise and it would be under such conditions that Allah would reveal to Jesus these words: I have brought forth from amongst My servants such people against whom none would be able to fight; you take these people safely to Tur, and then Allah would send Gog and Magog and they would swarm down from every slope.
